Coordinator of Catechetical Resources

The Archdiocese of Indianapolis is seeking a Coordinator of Catechetical Resources who will empower ministry in the parishes by providing parish catechetical leaders with the support and resources needed for excellent Catechesis that makes disciples.

In this role you will collaborate with parish and Archdiocesan leaders to strengthen catechesis across our communities; build meaningful relationships; help equip parish leaders by developing, evaluating, and sharing catechetical resources that are practical and mission-focused; and play a key part in advancing the work of the Office of Catechesis and the Department of Parish Leadership.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Catechist with a passion for evangelizing Catechesis, a love for and experience supporting other Catechists with tools and resources, as well as strong organizational and teamworking skills.

Essential Functions

  1. Actively participate in the work of the Department of Leadership to form and support pastors and their leaders to make disciples in their parishes.
  2. Build relationships with parish leaders at department and office events, through parish visits, and the Office of Catechesis’s external communication.
  3. Promote and oversee the implementation of archdiocesan religion curriculum guidelines for parishes as well as the annual standardized assessment tool.
  4. Research, curate, and present doctrinally conforming catechetical resources, especially textbooks, and create other resources such that catechists will use these resources effectively for evangelizing catechesis. This includes correlating resources to the archdiocesan curriculum guidelines.
  5. Guide our annual survey of parish catechetical programs to provide analysis that will help with strategic decision-making.

Position Specification/Requirements

  1. Excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to articulate the Faith to teachers and leaders such that they can deliver it in developmentally appropriate ways; and the ability to model lifelong learning by a commitment for continuous professional and personal discipleship development.
  2. A thorough understanding of the teachings of the Catholic Church and the directives of the Magisterium in the area of catechesis, and a strong desire to foster the Church’s mission to make disciples.
  3. Strong administrative and organizational skills, especially in the areas of project and event management, written resource development and financial management. 
  4. Ability to work collaboratively and foster teamwork.
  5. A bachelor’s degree in catechetics, religious education or a related field is required. A master’s degree in one of these fields is preferred.  
  6. Demonstrated ability to curate catechetical resources and organize catechetical events and at least 3 years of experience in catechetical ministry (parish ministry or teaching) is required.
  7. Must be a professed and practicing Catholic and must be able to understand and to comply with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct.
  8. Must be able to successfully complete the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Child Safety training.
  9. Background screening and valid driver’s license required.
  10. Evening and weekend work is regularly necessary, and travel (mainly within the Archdiocese) is required.
