Position Summary
The Instructional Assistant supports the educational mission of Saint Simon the Apostle School by assisting teachers and students in Grades 1–8. This role includes working with small groups or individual students on skill development, supporting classroom instruction, and contributing to the overall positive and faith-filled environment of the school. The ideal candidate is adaptable, collaborative, and proactive in meeting student and teacher needs.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom & Instructional Support
- Assist teachers in implementing instructional activities and reinforcing academic skills.
- Work with small groups of students or individual learners on targeted skill work as directed by teachers.
- Support differentiated instruction, helping meet the diverse needs of learners across multiple grade levels.
- Prepare, organize, or help manage classroom materials as needed.
Student Support & Engagement
- Build positive relationships with students and help maintain a respectful, safe learning environment.
- Monitor student progress during instructional activities and communicate observations to teachers.
- Encourage student independence, engagement, and confidence.
Collaboration & Initiative
- Work collaboratively with multiple teachers across grade levels and subject areas.
- Take initiative in identifying tasks that support teachers and enhance student learning.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to assist in various classrooms and instructional settings.
Additional School Duties
- Participate in daily operational responsibilities such as carline, lunch, and recess supervision.
- Assist with school events, classroom transitions, or other duties as assigned by administration.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and take direction from teachers and administrators.
- Demonstrated patience, flexibility, and commitment to student success.
- Willingness to uphold the Catholic values and mission of Saint Simon the Apostle School.
Hours & Compensation
- Position follows the school calendar; hours may vary depending on grade-level assignments and duty schedules.
- Compensation commensurate with experience.
