Reports to: Executive Director, Secretariat for Catholic Charities
The Archdiocese of Indianapolis is seeking a Coordinator of Corrections Ministry to provide leadership and oversight for ministries serving incarcerated individuals and reentry services for returning citizens throughout the Archdiocese. This role serves as the primary contact for all prison and jail ministry activities and events. The ideal candidate is a person of faith with a pastoral vision for ministry and professional credentials in pastoral care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and guide the Archdiocesan plan for Corrections Ministry in alignment with its mission and vision.
  • Coordinate reentry services by collaborating with civil and faith-based programs supporting individuals returning to society.
  • Promote initiatives that advance public education and policy rooted in Catholic Social Teaching.
  • Maintain regular communication with volunteers ministering in prisons and jails.
  • Partner with clergy and lay volunteers to assess needs and opportunities for ministry.
  • Identify training needs, organize professional development, and facilitate volunteer training sessions.
  • Provide resources and support to ministers serving in correctional facilities.
  • Organize an annual retreat/conference for volunteers to educate, network, and celebrate successes.
  • Utilize social media and Archdiocesan platforms to inform and engage volunteers and the community.
  • Serve as liaison to the Corrections Ministry Committee and collaborate on initiatives to strengthen ministry efforts.

Qualifications

  • Active, practicing Catholic committed to correctional ministry.
  • Knowledge of Catholic Social Teaching and strong commitment to its principles.
  • Proven success in developing and coordinating complex initiatives at a regional or state level.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to approach challenges as opportunities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Education & Experience

  • Advanced degree in pastoral ministry, theology, or related field preferred.
  • Solid formation in Catholic doctrine and teachings.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in corrections ministry.
  • Supervisory experience (1–2 years) preferred.
  • Event planning and program coordination experience.
  • Must comply with Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct and complete Child Safety Training.
  • Background check and valid driver’s license required.

Working Environment

  • Requires evening and weekend availability and regular travel throughout the Archdiocese.
  • Lay ministers are expected to model Christian values and uphold Catholic teachings in personal and professional conduct.
