Position Summary
The Cafeteria Manager is responsible for directing all aspects of food service operations at Saint Simon the Apostle School. This position ensures that students receive nutritious, high-quality meals in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. The Cafeteria Manager oversees menu planning, staff supervision, food ordering, budgeting, and compliance with all nutritional and safety guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Menu Planning & Nutrition Compliance
- Develop monthly menus that meet federal, state, and Archdiocesan nutritional guidelines.
- Ensure meals are balanced, appealing, and appropriate for students in Preschool through Grade 8.
- Monitor and adjust menus based on student needs, dietary restrictions, and participation rates.
Staff Leadership & Kitchen Operations
- Supervise and support cafeteria staff, including scheduling, training, and performance guidance.
- Ensure proper food preparation, serving procedures, and kitchen cleanliness.
- Maintain high standards of customer service and teamwork within the food service team.
Food Ordering, Inventory & Budget Management
- Order food and supplies in a cost-effective and timely manner.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and oversee all deliveries.
- Adhere to the approved budget, track expenses, and work with administration on financial reporting.
- Implement procedures to minimize waste and maximize efficiency.
Quality Control & Safety Oversight
- Ensure that all meals meet high standards for taste, presentation, and consistency.
- Uphold all food safety regulations, including proper storage, temperature control, and sanitation practices.
- Conduct routine kitchen inspections and address any concerns promptly.
Communication & Coordination
- Collaborate with school administration regarding program goals, purchasing decisions, and operational updates.
- Communicate menu changes, allergy alerts, or special meal information to staff and families as needed.
- Coordinate with teachers and office staff to support special events or accommodations.
Qualifications
- Experience in school food service, cafeteria management, or related culinary field preferred.
- Knowledge of USDA and state nutritional guidelines.
- Strong organizational, budgeting, and communication skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Food Handler Certification or Food Protection Manager Certification (or willingness to obtain).
Hours & Compensation
- Position follows the school calendar; hours vary according to daily meal service and operational needs.
- Compensation commensurate with experience.
