Faith Formation
Faith formation, religious education and catechesis all describe our efforts to teach the Catholic faith in ways that draw all people closer to Jesus and deepen their participation in His Church. We have 151 parishes and missions throughout southern and central Indiana, each of whom strives for a comprehensive, cradle-to-grave catechetical program.
The Archdiocesan Director of Catechesis collaborates with parish administrators of religious education as well as additional catechetical leaders (e.g. youth ministers and principals) in seeing to it that the key components of various faith formation efforts are in place. This entails addressing several basic questions with corresponding resources:
- What am I supposed to teach? (see Archdiocesan Catechetical Curriculum Guidelines below)
- What resources should I use to teach? (see list of books in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church)
- How do I know if I'm teaching well? (see Faith 2000 assessment tool)
- How can I grow as a catechist? (see Formation and Certification process)
Under the loving guidance of their pastors, the catechetical leaders who we communicate with most directly (parish administrators of religious education, youth ministers and principals) are the key to our programs. By God's grace we continue enhancing faith formation throughout the archdiocese, bringing His timeless truths to our 21st century culture.
