IPI Programs -- Black Catholics

Black Theology and Spirituality Certificate

The Fr. Boniface Hardin Black Catholic Theology & Spirituality Program was founded as part of the Archdiocesan Intercultural Pastoral Formation Institute. It is committed to developing and supporting pastoral leaders, men and women of all races and backgrounds, for the Black Catholic ministry in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. The Program aims to respond to Pope Francis’ exhortation “to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by the Joy of the Gospel” encouraging participants “discern on how best to bring the Gospel message to different cultural contexts and groups...All of us are called to mature in our work as evangelizers… [with] better training, a deepening love and a clearer witness to the Gospel.”

The Fr. Boniface Hardin Program will provide opportunities for pastoral, intellectual, professional, and inspirational development of transformational leadership within the Black Catholic community, offered through classes, lectures, worship, workshops, and internships, as well as social outreach & cultural celebrations.

Those who enroll in the Program as an avenue for completing a certificate program will find integrated into the curriculum critical methodological approaches from the Black Catholic tradition as well as theological reflection and social witness experiences that flow from that tradition. The curriculum for the certificate program is a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary enterprise consistent with the pastoral orientation of the Intercultural Ministry Office practical and reflective engagement with the inter-cultural, global reality of the Church and society. The Certificate Program consists in a series of courses and workshops. For more details about the courses you can see our pamphlet. Click here.
