What

The Revised Edition of the Rite of Marriage has been approved for use in the United States. The Offices of Worship, Catechesis, and Pro Life and Family Life and the Metropolitan Tribunal will present a major workshop on the revised edition of the Order of Celebrating Matrimony. The workshop will focus on the preparation for and celebration of the Sacrament of Marriage.

  • The Office of Worship sessions will focus on the celebration of the sacramental rite. We will begin the day with a review of common experiences related to wedding ceremonies, addressing the richness of the Catholic liturgy and ways to avoid what undermines it. The morning session will also address the new parts of the revised edition of the ritual and the practical considerations of getting started. In the afternoon session we will explore the new Order of Celebrating Matrimony in a more in-depth way, including examples of best practices in liturgy and music. There also will be time for discussion among the participants regarding any questions, concerns, or problems that need to be addressed.
  • The Office of Pro-Life & Family Life session will focus on Marriage Preparation. We will begin the day with an overview of the Guiding Principles that lay the foundation for solid marriage preparation, while the afternoon will consist of diving deep into best practice, resources, and practical considerations for forming engaged and married couples.
  • The Metropolitan Tribunal session will discuss the newly-revised forms for matrimonial dispensations, freedom to marry, and prenuptial investigation. Significant revisions have been made to each form. This session will include an in-depth tutorial on how to complete the new forms, as well as some pastoral recommendations.
