Full- or Part-Time Director of Liturgy and Music

Holy Rosary Catholic Church is seeking a Full- or Part-Time Director of Liturgy and Music at our downtown Indianapolis parish.

The Director of Liturgy and Music is responsible for collaborating with clergy, staff, ministry leaders, volunteers, and musicians to plan and execute parish liturgies and music. The Director develops and directs liturgical ministers and musicians to provide leadership on Sundays and other special liturgies that will lead parishioners to full, conscious, and active participation in liturgical celebrations.

Responsibilities: 

Administer a multifaceted liturgy & music program including planning, budgeting, scheduling
and timely communication with other liturgical ministers and overseeing scheduling of ministers, musicians, and other required volunteers for all daily, weekend, Holy Day, and other special liturgies in both the Mass of the current Roman Missal (“Novus Ordo”) and the Mass according the 1962 Roman Missal (“Traditional Latin Mass”).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Pastoral, Musical, Liturgical, and Organizational Skills as outlined in the Qualifications for the Director
of Music Ministries Policy Statement (National Association of Pastoral Musicians, Director of Music
Ministries Division) With special emphasis on:  Gregorian Chant; Sacred Polyphony; Choral and Orchestral direction.  

Education, Training and Experience

• Bachelor Degree in Liturgy or Music required; Advanced Degree preferred
• Capabilities in chorale direction, instrumental (including organ), and vocal preferred

  • Practical experience of 3+ years in a pastoral setting required
  • Must have a working knowledge of the musical and liturgical traditions according the Roman Missal of 1962 (“Traditional Latin Mass”) and the current Missal of 2001.
